See You At the Pole 2008

 

It began a number of years ago, 1990 to be exact, that a group of students organized an event where they, and other students all around the United States (now the World) choose a day toward the beginning of the school year and gather around the flag pole and…. pray.

According to See You At the Pole, they meet to pray “for thier school, friends, teachers, government, and thier nation”

Well, tomorrow morning is the big day, 7:00am, September 24, 2008, when students will be doing this.

Whether you share their beliefs or not, you have to admire their faith, conviction, and desire to make a difference in their world. And if you do share their beliefs, support them and lift them up yourselves.

While this post is directed to my local Greater Birmingham Alabama area, it is intended for all areas. Since this event is happening all over the world. I think prayer is needed everywhere and all the time.

If You Want to Get a Birmingham Alabama Home Mortgage

You must have heard about the about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and because it’s important to us that you get the ‘ Straight Talk” we thought we would take a minute and interpret for you exactly what it means and how it will impact you personally.

First a little history.

A couple of month’s ago the federal government took action to shore up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

For starters, the Federal Reserve opened the discount window to allow the two government sponsored enterprises to borrow lots of money, at 2.5% to cover there mounting losses.

The Fed committed to making sure that these two companies who hold or guarantee 5.2 trillion dollars worth of mortgages didn’t go belly up.

So here’s what’s going on now:

Freddie and Fannie have lost 3.1 billion dollars between April and June, and about 14 billion dollars year to date.

Now the guys at the top of both companies are getting kicked out, and there have been some revelations of poor management as well as the possibility of cooked books.

So the Fed is stepping in, and putting the companies into conservatorship. Sort of like Chapter 11 reorganization. They’re going to buy around 100 billion dollars worth of Fannie and Freddie mortgage backed securities.

This is a big deal, because not only does it show the government’s commitment to keeping these companies afloat, but also because it can have a positive effect on rates.

What we can expect is more of what we’ve seen in the past year. Lenders have gotten away from the very loose underwriting guidelines of the last several years.

Borrowers will really have to have their ducks in a row with good documentation, and credit issues dealt with in advance.

So here’s the bottom line- Mortgages for Birmingham Alabama Real Estate are going to continue to be available with good rates, but lenders are going to be very strict in they’re underwriting.

Birmingham Alabama Greek Food Festival - September 11-13, 2008

The Greek Food Festival in Birmingham Alabama started yesterday, September 11 and runs through Saturday, September 13th, 2008.

This is one of my favorite festivals in Birmingham eavery year!

The Holy Trinity - Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Cathedral started celebrating the festival 36 years ago. I probably started going about 26 years ago, and I don't think I have missed a year yet!

They promise good food, good music, and lots of fun and I can attest that this is true! Thier menu features meals, appetizers, and desserts as authentically Greek as you can probably ger here in Birmingham. They also have serveral areas for shopping from art, to clothing, to jewlery and more.

If you live anywhere around the Birmingham Alabama area, I would urge you to make a stop by and enjoy yourself. (You can get directions here.)

You can see below a short video I took last night of some of the music and dancing. I would have gotten the food, but I was hungry so you will have to come try it for yourself!
